Document Management only

Post by kmv2k » Fri Jan 18, 2013 10:33 am

I have a prctice using softdent and really only want to have a paper chart archival/retrieval program. I do need the abilty to "look up" things and want to archive my older paper charts. Anyone using OD for primarily this reason?

It doesn't work well to try to mix and match two different systems unless you can quickly bridge between them. In this case you would need a bridge from SoftDent to Open Dental. We allow you to pass in the patient Id in a command line argument:
http://www.opendental.com/manual/commandline.html
So the only thing holding you back would be the inability of SD to pass a command line argument to Open Dental. If they had that feature (which I doubt), it would look similar to our Program Links:
http://www.opendental.com/manual/programlinks.html
And they would have to support custom bridges.

Bridges require support from both programs. We fully support user-defined bridges going in both directions. In contrast, most other dental software charges for outgoing bridges and does not support incoming bridges at all.

I switched from SoftDent to OD late last year and could not be happier. A huge step up in a variety of ways. Maybe you should consider a complete switch.

Yeah..listen to what Bob says...I too switched from Softdent....using OD to just scan in your old charts is like going out and buying a 5 million dollar house and only living in the basement..There is soo much more to OD than Softdent...with proper planning the move can be really easy...

It is interesting to see others who have had it with Softdent. Version 15 has been a disaster with our office and their developement team does not seem to have any interest in fixing things. I am looking very seriously at switching and really like what I have seen so far.
