Fluoride codes for 2013

Post by Tom Zaccaria » Thu Dec 13, 2012 4:45 pm

What are we doing for the new ADA codes for 2013?
Specifically, the most common changes are D1203 and D1204 child and adult fluoride treatments are being replaced by D1206.

D1206 exists now but the description is incorrect according to the 2013 version.

Will we have to recode all the quick proc buttons?

I think the new code will be D1208. I'm worried that some insurance companies might not be ready for the new code while others will. How are we going to keep track of what code to use?

According to what Delta Dental sent us;

D1206=topical application of fluoride varnish (which we use)
D1208=topical application of fluoride (I'm guessing jel)

I was going to change and then follow up on non payments. But the description portion needs to be corrected.

Anyone else have any input on this?

I highly recommend a getting a subscription to Insurance Solutions Newsletter. www.dental-ins-solutions.com which is a big help in knowing how to code things. Basically codes D1203 and D1204 ore being deleted and replaced by D1208 which has no age distinction. D1206 stays the same.

Ok. My fix for this was to:

1. add a new code D1208a with a description of topical application of fluoride varnish. We will use this for children up to 16 or 19 depending on the plan.
2. we went ahead and changed the ADA code for the fluoride applications for 2013 to this new number (D1208a)
3. changed the Quick Proc numbers from D1203, fluoride, to D1208a

Now when OpenDental adds the official D1208 the new ADA number I will have to do 2 and 3 above again.

What do you all think? Good workaround for the time being?
