Epson GT-S50 Scanner issues

Post by trunxness » Sun Oct 07, 2012 1:03 pm

First time posting on these forums,

I have the Epson GT-S50. When I try to scan it has this error message: unable to scan. please make sure you can scan using other software. Error: 5 EZTEC_DS_Failure.

Anyone encounter this before and what should I do? Looks like the scanner works using the Epson Scan application, but not in open dental.

Thanks in advance,

TT

What exact version of Open Dental are you using?

Get it all the time.
Got it today
Very frustrating.
Tech support resolves it temporarily, but never permanantly.
Using 12.4.3

I found a message that displays after recognizing that error code and this is what it says: "Duplex mode without scanner options window failed. Try enabling the scanner options window or disabling duplex mode."
Hope one of those two suggestions helps.

Thanks, but my error comes with OD being configured single scan.

We just had another customer with that exact scanner have the same issue using v12.2. Hopefully we can figure something out, these scanner / printing issues are hard to track down. Just wanted to give you an update.

Jason,

Our issue with the scanner occurred well before 12.2.
You'd have to check your tech support file on my office as to when we first notified OD support.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll team up with Michael and ask about his attempted fix that he made for you in v12.2.26 and see if we can't brainstorm for another possible solution.

I am using 12.3.20.0. Recently updated to this version in hopes that it might some how solve the issue but to no avail. If this makes you feel any better, the Epson software and interfaces have been finicky as well lately. But my scanner is pretty much useless in OD. Would love to fully utilize this scanner with OD. Please update with any progress. You guys are awesome and I brag about you all to all my buddies. Thanks so much for your hard work.

After some testing with the GT-S50 I've come to the conclusion that the errors are due to the updated driver that Epson released. The latest drivers (3.66A) cause this error to happen not only in Open Dental, but in the twain sample application as well. Every time I got this error (or other errors similar to it) the scanner would become unresponsive and I would have to restart my computer to get it to even scan from the control panel. What a pain it was...
After many reboots and talking with my co-worker, which the scanner works flawlessly on his computer, I figured out the difference was in the driver versions we were using. The latest always fails (v3.6.6), his works nicely at v3.6.4 and so I decided to do a little searching and found v3.62A and those drivers work as well.
To find out what driver version you are using, click Start > Devices and Printers > Right click EPSON Scanner > Properties > Hardware tab > Properties button in the lower right > Driver tab. Do a Roll Back Driver if possible or uninstall the current drivers and get your Google on for an older version!
P.S. I'd post the link I used but the website had an upload rate equivalent to the speed of smell and I'd be embarrassed to bestow it upon others.

So i am currently looking to purchase a new scanner. Is the epson gt-s50 the best one to go with? Or is there a better model anyone can recommend?

I am currently using a brother all in one machine which works good, but for duplex scanning it passes the page twice instead of duplex scanning in 1 motion. I got a bunch of charts that need scanning and want to speed up the process...

Also I want to verify the epson gt-s50 can detect blank pages and eliminate them in open dental?
thanks guyz

Jason,

Perhaps my brain isn't working today, but all the sites that have v3.62A seem to be Mac OS drivers. Cannot open.

Epson seems to have 3.66 as .exe file.
Please direct me to a 3.62 or 3.64 .exe site.

Thank you

Can't say I didn't warn you: http://driverscollection.com/?H=GT-S50&By=Epson
v3.62 for windows is second from the bottom of that page. I do not know of a v3.64 site.

There ended up not being an issue for Open Dental to resolve. It was a fault in the most recent EPSON driver. If Windows installs it automatically you can remove it and manually install an older driver that you find on the internet or hopefully the one that comes with the CD.

In case anyone else runs across this thread, this bug was just fixed in version 20.3 and later.
