email problem

Post by drpav » Tue Jul 10, 2012 12:43 pm

I am trying to set up email with Comcast and I keep getting the error:

mailbox unavailable 5.1.0 authentication required

I have tried all kinds of different settings in the email setup. I am using:

smtp.comcast.net
port 587
and have tried SSL checked and unchecked

I am not sure what else to try... Any ideas?

Thank you!

Did you put in your full username like so:

username@comcast.net

???

SSL should be unchecked.

So just to clarify: you tried both

username

and

username@comcast.net

in the Username field in Email Setup in OD?

If either gives you the same response, then that usually means that Comcast does not recognize the username. The next step would be to try to telnet directly into the Comcast smtp server and attempt to make a connection. I can give you step by step directions for how to do that if you want.
