Post by simsalabim » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:47 pm

I tried reinstalling open dent on my backup computer. I now get this error msg could not establish connection to database. I am running Vista. I tried uninstalling open dent and mysql and reinstalling again, and i still get the same error msg.

I think that the first time you run it on the backup you have to right click and run as administrator.
That's what I had to do in Windows 7.
Should be a simple fix.

Just to clarify Tom's suggestion, run the opendental installer as admin. If Tom's suggestion doesn't do it, also try:
Setting server to localhost or 127.0.0.1
Opening the mysql mysqld mysql-nt ports in windows firewall (same machine connection doesnt go thru firewall but try it anyway)
Make sure mysql is actually running in taskmgr
More extreme measure: disable your antivirus while reinstalling mysql again.

You may also want to make sure that once you restore your database, your database still thinks that the images folder is on the same folder as the original computer. You may have to redirect OD as to where the new database is store in your local computer. I have a backup of OD running in my home computer but the database location is not the same for both office and home computers.
