Print or email Lab Slips - default settings

Post by edpsystems » Tue Jan 24, 2012 6:13 am

Hi all,

We're creating a new lab slip, and printing it for the technician, but not emailing it at all. When we click on Print/Email there's it defaults to 0 copies, and email ticked.

Our staff have just asked me: " can you change it so the default is not ticked for email patient/lab when we want to print a lab slip please, it has changed recently - wasn't like that before ???"

I've been through the OD settings, web help & forum and can't se anything. Any help appreciated, thanks!

I noticed the same thing. I agree there should be a setting to decide what we want for a default.

But for a quick fix - if you erase the email addresses out of the lab info then it will default to print instead of email

yes, we can't stand this and have to uncheck the email and click 1 for print ever time as well...

good thought about removing the email address...but then we can't email photos sometimes like we do...

I've added it to our internal todo list.

We have looked into it. It's behaving exactly as designed. If you don't want it to try to email to the laboratory, then you should remove the email address from the laboratory edit window and put it in the note field, instead.

ok, well, we want the email in to sometimes email pictures but Never to send the lab slip, it goes with the physical case...not sure why you are thinking this would be the way we want it? I guess it will require another plugin change...

So nobody ever wants to email lab slips to the lab?

Until digital impressions become the norm, we don't see the need. It's just as easy to put the lab slip in the box with the case and ship. If by some chance the package gets lost or the shipping label comes off, the lab slip inside will have who this was from and who was to receive it. Not exactly HIPAA safe  but functional. We will email photos, but not lab slips.

I agree. I started e-mailing the lab slips but the labs seem to prefer to have a paper copy, so I went back to printing them. Now, I only e-mail it when the pickup service arrives before I have a chance to type it up.

Another vote for nope on emailing lab slips...why would the lab want to have to match slips to cases and we would still need something in the box for them to identify the case...maybe it can be hidden and placed in the setup options for the few that want it?

I don't have a default lab email setup...Is that why mine shows the patient's email address instead?..I certainly don't want the patient to accidently get a copy of the lab slip by mistake.

right, I think until we do all digital (if ever) then sending it with the case is the best...you have to send something to identify it anyway...thanks.

OK, I agree. I've added it to our list to change the behavior.

Being a minor issue, the change was only made in v12.0.13. That version has been released.

In case we do want to email the lab, can you have the lab's email address filled in automatically when the "email to lab" box is ticked? Otherwise we have to look up the lab's email address, copy and paste it. Thanks!

Bump of the thread to ask this exact same question. I've started emailing my slips to the lab, but have to keep going back to look up the address even though it is entered in Open Dental. Is it easy enough to make it show up automatically?
