Ortho Chart

Post by drtech » Sat Aug 06, 2011 4:50 pm

Is there a manual page for the ortho chart? I can't figure out how it works...all my regular custom patient fields just show up in the list...

Yes, that's how the top part works for now. The bottom part is a grid where you set up the columns in the Display Fields setup. Then, you can start making dated entries. It can really be used for anything, not just ortho, and we do plan to enhance it over time if people start using it.

Ok, that is what I was looking for....and the date needs to automatically default to today right? (right you now have to type in in manually, which is annoying...)

What do you mean, you have to "manually type it in"?

Not sure exactly how this new Ortho chart is to be utilized without being able to insert procedure codes. A proper set up for ortho may be similar to the current chart module however instead of surface buttons, those buttons could be for chain, adding stops, loose brackets, etc. I currently have my Diagnosis column set up to have a drop down menu of wire sizes. I then have my ortho codes catgorized (a N for no fee codes) into exam, wires, impressions, etc. (Where the root canal buttons are etc.)

Some sort of way to also communicate easily to front desk that the next appointment needs to be scheduled in 6-8 weeks etc would be very helpful. If any one has any idea how to do so I'd love to hear it. (Other than yelling down the hall  )

Is there any way to also incorporate the following two things.

In the Ortho Chart patient fields can be added. This is great however I would like to add fields that don't have to show up in the patient info chart. For instance one field being a drop down menu for CL I, II, or III molar relationship.

These newly created fields could then be inserted into sheets. This would allow the Ortho Chart module to act as a live exam sheet that would automatically compose a letter to referring dentist and the patient describing the exam findings. There currently is no way (or at least I do not know how to) to create patient fields that can be added to the sheets program.

Just a few thoughts. I do appreciate everything you all do to make open dental a innovative tool!

You would still insert your procedures as needed in the regular chart for billing. In the ortho chart, in the lower grid, you would have columns for wire sizes, chain, adding stops, loose brackets, impressions etc. I

In the ortho chart, in the lower gride, just add a column for how many weeks until the next appointment.

If you look at http://www.opendental.com/manual/orthodontic.html
you will see at the bottom that feature request 2047 is for Referral letters and patient letters automatically include data from single Exam Sheets. Your request is a little different and probably easier. I'm not in front of a computer where I can look it up, but you could see if there's a feature request with the keywords: sheet patient field.

Jordan, When I click the Add date button in the lower left of the ortho chart window to add a new row, it is blank and I have to type in a date. Shouldn't it just automatically have today's date listed and highlighted so you only have to click ok unless you want a different date?

You should totally ignore the add date button if the entry is for today's date. Look in the grid. There is already a blank row with today's date, so why would you want to add another one? Also, only one row is allowed for any given date.
