How to enter patient refund check

Post by Nate » Mon Oct 22, 2007 8:15 am

What is the most proper way to enter a patient refund check so that at the end of the year things balance properly? If we over charge the patient and insurance pays more then we expected how should we enter it into Open Dental?

So far we have done it 2 ways and I’m not sure what the effects of each will be when balancing at the end of the year.

1)Simply go to the Account, select Adjustment, select Patient Refund Check (under additions), enter the amount. It is very quick and their account reflects zero balance.
2)Go to Account, select Payment, enter a negative check payment. This way is also fairly quick and the account will reflect a zero balance.

What is the difference and what is the best way to enter the patient refund check?

Thanks

see the other topic here on the same subject....

the best way to do it is the negative payment to make everything accurate
See the bottom of this page: http://www.open-dent.com/manual/reportprodinc.html. Basically, you need to use a negative payment rather than any kind of adjustment.
