Lexicomp??

Post by asanders » Thu Nov 11, 2010 6:01 pm

Noticed in the latest update that OD is now linked to Lexicomp. Before I plunk down the change for lexicomp, what is the plan for this feature as I can't tell that it does anything.

I will be interested to see what happens with this "link to Lexi-Comp" in Open Dental. Right now, it seems to me that it functions like a paid advertisement. You click on the link and takes your to a page that encourages you to contact LexiComp to set up a subscription to their service. I called Open Dental Tech Support to inquire if this was the extent of the "link to Lexi-Comp" and the message that I received back seemed to indicate that this is the extent of the functionality for now.

I am already a subscriber to LexiComp and can highly recommend their program. Tons of information at your fingertips for looking up drugs, indications, contraindications, interactions, dosages, etc. It goes beyond that -- they have clinical info on endo, perio, oral path, oral surgery, medical emergencies, implants, etc. I couldn't begin to outline all the features of their software package. Cost is $400/1year, $560/2 years or $700/3 yrs. We do a good bit of sedation in our office and being able to look up our patient's meds, interactions, etc. is very valuable to us. They have a free 30 day trial if you are interested.

Now back to Open Dental -- I was hoping we could get something more than a "advertising link" if it is listed as a new feature. At the very least, a link directly to the Lexi-Comp database when clicking on the logo above the current list of medications. I envision being able to save my Lexi-Comp username and password in Open Dental so that when you or your staff click on LexiComp in Open Dental, you are at the home screen of the Lexi-Comp database. I now have to open a session in my internet browser to access the Lexi-Comp database by using my username and password. What would be even better is for those who pay the subscription to subscribe to Lexi-Comp is if you added a drug into Open Dental, there would be integration with the Lexi-Comp database so you would have a complete wealth on info on that drug. I'll be interested to see how this relationship with Lexi-Comp evolves.
