Referral Sheets - Slip vs Letter

Post by atd » Fri Oct 15, 2010 8:41 am

I just went through and added a general referral sheet. When I was done I realized I entered it as a referral letter rather than a referral slip. Can someone please explain why there are two different types of referral sheets? I know the slip can only be added in the referral section and the letter can be added from the letter drop-down menu. Is there a reason for two places or is the slip supposed to be replacing the letter? I'm not sure where I should have put this one and how I should handle it in the future. Sorry if this is obvious to everyone but me.

A referral slip is designed to replace the paper referral slip that is commonly used. In other words, there is one default slip per referral source and you are referring TO that referral. A referral letter is usually a letter to a dentist a patient is referred FROM. For example, a specialty office sending a letter to a general dentist. The organization and intent is totally different.

so if thats the case why would referral slip give you the option to have it from or to a specialist? it should always default referral "to" correct?

Yes, I suppose we could give a warning message or something. It doesn't seem like a big deal.

put it on each workstation in the open dental program folder and then follow the install instructions to setup a program link to the dll...then the next time you restart OD, it will be activated

On my system, I have an "ODActive" folder on my server that has the main current version OD files along with my plugin. Then I have a batch file that automatically copies the entire folder to each workstation when the workstation is booted. That way you only have to put it on your server and it is copied to every computer when you restart or run the batch file. (make sure OD is closed when you run it) I call my "Update OD.bat" and put it in each computer's startup folder

*************************
Install instructions
To enable it, you must be sure you download the correct version for the specified Open Dental version on my website. Just download the file, unzip it, and then copy it to your open dental folder (usually “c:\program files\open dental\”) Start Open Dental, create a program link, enable it and in the dll path box, type “PluginDrTECH.dll”. Be sure to get the capitalization right. For the Text on the Program Link, put something like “Plugin Options” or whatever you would like. This is how you will access the options to turn features on or off. Restart Open Dental and enjoy!

Could more patient information data fields be added to the referral letter template and also bday to the referral slip? This will make it easier for the reffering to and from offices to identify and contact those patients.

There are lots and lots of fields tucked away in static text boxes. Those fields are available in ALL sheet types. Make sure to look in there. Also, we just added dozens more fields in static text boxes for version 11.1, which has not yet been released.

I added a static image with my logo and letterhead to the Referral slip sheet but when I go to print or bring up the sheet in a person's chart the image is missing, the image is present in the edit sheet module. ANy thoughts? Thanx!

Check to see if there is a text box or something overlapping it. I have had a similar problem i think because the boxes are transparent in setup but opaque in use

when I print out the referral slip it only prints on 1/4 of the page, is there a way to print the referral slip to take up the entire page? what do most doctors do? Just give the patient the paper with the one section printed or do they cut it out? Any thoughts? Thanx!

The referral slip is designed to go on a 4 1/2 by 6 1/2 in page. You can make it a different size by editing the sheet. Make sure you duplicate it first in Setup/Sheets. Double click on the duplicate and click "Edit Properties". You will see the page size (width 450, height 650). Make it 850 by 1100 for a full page size and then click OK. You will want to edit the position of the fields in the sheet and maybe add or remove a few things.

most patients like the small size of paper, to me it makes more sense to be on full paper size, will do the changes, thank you!
