Appointment getting "stuck" on my mouse

Post by atd » Wed Aug 25, 2010 9:23 am

I had a user report a problem today scheduling a family recall (using the schedule family tool in make/find appt window). When she goes to drag the appointment off the pinboard for a patient that has a popup, the appointment will get "stuck" on her mouse after she clicks OK to the popup. She can't find any way to release that appointment on the schedule or back on the pinboard and is forced to close the program.

Using version 7.1.35

Ok this may sound weird but have you tried changing the mouse? I've had lots of mice doing weird things on me. Like real mice they do show age and die :-)

Another thing to check: just like diagnosing and endo problem, try to replicate it. We had a similar problem once here that finally got traced down when it also happened to me. It turns out that the front desk had a habit of accidentally pressing the right button of the mouse at the same time while clicking and dragging. Jordan fixed the issue in an older version, but perhaps it (the bug) has snuck back in again.

Yes, like Rick says, find out exactly what you are doing when it happens. It is possible that you can characterize it so that we can replicate it and fix it. There has been more than one mouse related bug that was hard to replicate and thus hard to fix, but you should be able to characterize it if you pay close attention to what is different when it sticks.

The explanation was clear and has been verified.

In the last couple of months users have been reporting this problem again, where the appointment gets stuck on their mouse and they have to close Open Dental. I have seen it first hand also. Using version 7.6.33.
