Allergic Rx.

Post by Robert_dds » Thu Jun 10, 2010 3:27 pm

Is there a feature in od that triggers when a patient is allergic to certain medication. For example, we should be able to check a box that tells a patient is allergic to Penicillin so that when we go to Rx, we cannot print out rx for penicillin.

Robert,

Yes, Open Dental already has this capability. First of all, you set allergies under Diseases. Go to Setup, Diseases. We list them as Allergy:Penicillin/Amoxicillin, Allergy:Cephalosporins, Allergy:Sulfa Drugs, etc.

You then add this "disease" to the patient that is allergic to the drug. For example if they are allergic to penicillin, under diseases -- you will have listed Allergy: Penicillin/Amoxicillin

The final step is to go to your list of Prescription and bring up your prescription for Penicillin and there is a section called Alerts. You go to that section and hit "Add" and it will bring up your list of diseases and you select: Allergy:Penicillin/Amoxicillin. You can repeat the same procedure if you also have a prescription for Amoxicillin.

You are now done. To test it, try writing a prescription for Penicillin for this patient and you should get a warning message.

Hope this helps.

Jeff
