Sheets-Auto Notes or Auto Text?

Post by savvy » Mon May 31, 2010 7:50 pm

I must admit, I have not tried to use the Sheets function.
My first attempt is with Lab Slips. I have a few questions:

-Is it possible in the "Instructions section" to use either the OD Auto Notes feature, MS Word Auto Text or another similar short cut?
-Using a Glidewell Lab slip as an example, can one have check boxes?, How?
-Can one add the numerical tooth arches (1-16,17-32)?
- Can one attach photo(s)?, How?
- I see that one can email the Lab slip to the patient, is it possible to email to the lab?, Can this be a permanent option?

What and How are others using this feature?
Cheers!

OK.....Sorta got the hang of Sheets.
With creating my custom lab slip I have included:
Check boxes
Numerical tooth arch

I have been told that I can not email the lab slip directly as of now.

However, I have not figured out, or been informed about the following:
Attaching Images
Using Auto text or AutoNotes

Any input here?

Can't attach images and no autotext. Keep in mind that you can't do that with paper either. This feature is designed to replace the paper forms. Nothing more for now. It still must be printed and sent with the case. You would send images the same way as you currently do. Paper forms do not have autotext and neither do these sheets, although you could put some static text in there as a sort of template to edit.

Future improvements will, of course, make the forms far better than the original paper forms. But even now, there are still advantages. The name, due date, etc gets prefilled. You don't have to scan it when done. It's organized and attached to the actual lab case. You don't have to search for the proper lab slip because the computer knows which one to use. And so on.

Thanks Jordan.
However, you should have left out, "You would send images the same way as you currently do".

I currently have a link to Word as well as CliniView in the Chart Module. I have templates along with autotext and I insert the image(s) on the document. The document (.doc) is then attached to an email. A copy is saved in the patients image file in the appropriate folder (Lab, Oral Surg, Perio, Endo, etc.)

It's actally quite slick.
The specialist/lab can then save the .doc in their system, or in the case of my lab, save just the image(s).

Cheers!

Savvy, I use a similar protocol as you do for saving completed forms. A few questions and comments...

How do you attach a link to word in the chart module?...I have my template forms saved as a quick launch icon at the bottom of the Windows toolbar.
Is using "autotext" more efficient for adding common/template scripts text than cutting and pasting scripts from another word doc?

Instead of using a check box, I use the highlighter feature in word to copy over the "checkbox" on my word template doc...works pretty well.

A minor problem we encounter is that when importing the doc to images, the date that the original template was created is the date that is entered into OD images even though the newly created form is saved on the current day's date...anyone know how to force OD to show the current day's date in the images module?

Thanks for any feedback...hopefully, we can share more tips!

Go to Setup, then scroll down to Program Links.
Select "Add"
In the Description blank, I put MS Word
Put a check mark in the Enabled box
In the path of file to open box, copy your Word.exe link (mine is E:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE
In the Text On Button box, I put MS Word
In the Add Button To These Toolbars box, select the module you want (if you want multiple, other than All, select by also holding down the Ctrl key).

Savvy, thanks for the explaination...I've never understood the Procedure Links setup until now...thank you for enlightening me on this. I wish you could add specific template-based word and excel files with radio buttons instead of just opening the program, then searching for specific files to open. This would simplify the searching for the files to open steps.

Sure you can. Just make your program link to your template file instead of to Word. The computer will know to use Word to open that file.
