Windows 7 64bit workstation

Post by Nate » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:57 am

Im looking to add an additional workstation to the network. It would be a smaller laptop to review medical hx, chart, notes, etc. I will also back up to it and take it home so it will act as my offsite back up. Anyway I found that the one I was thinking about purchasing has Windows 7 64bit. I read information in the computer requirements and mentioned issues with printing and using other hardware with 64bit. I will not be using this computer for scanning or printing. Will it still be able to function as a workstation to review charts, notes, etc on the network? All other computers are windows xp professional 32bit. Has anyone had any experience adding windows 7 64bit computer to existing xp network?

Scanning, printing, and signatures are all working well with 64 bit now. Have not noticed any problems with Windows 7, but not extensively tested. Make sure the screen resolution is at least 1024 x 768.

I added a windows 7 64 bit computer on my XP pro network. It works fine, except for scanning directly from the images module (version 6.7, I don't know about newer versions). When you set it up don't set it as a Homegroup. Those are for all windows 7 networks. You have to set it up to join your XP workgroup. Also remember to turn on network discovery in windows 7. Here's a how-to guide in microsoft's website on how to set everything up between XP, Vista and Windows 7 :

The scanning was fixed in version 6.9 or so.

Yes. But credit card machine? You mean the card swiper? That's really just a keyboard in disguise. So if that's what you mean, then yes.
