prescription security

Post by murmsk » Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:40 am

I friend of mine just caught his custodian printing scripts for vicodin ... I don't know what PMS he uses.

The way OD is set up now.... anyone with access can print a script as many times as he or she wants. Are printings logged?

Should this be tightened to require a separate password for printing a second time or for printing more than an hour after entry.

NY State required new Rx pads that have consecutive numbers.
Two things needed to comply with NYS..

First, a box or place on the Rx in OD to show these consecutive #'s
(and could automatically fill in the next consecutive #)

And second a data base of all Rx's entered into OD
that could be viewed, printed or exported to excell
if ever such a list was requested by the authorities
or just for our own auditing purposes.

serial # would be good too. I just think being able to print an unlimited number of copies of a script with no log is asking for trouble .

Has this been setup as a feature request, I couldn't find it in there. I think this is a very good idea too. Is there a query to see Rx's for the day, week month etc. and/or the Rx'x given a patient. A "control number " may be a good idea we had it on the paper Rx's pads we used to use (but don't want to go back there) and we had a problem with a pt's kid falsely obtaining Rx's but it was easy to track when the DEA and State Board came calling.
