signing chart notes

Post by asanders » Fri May 29, 2009 3:22 pm

I'm on a roll. A concern of mine is the legality of chart notes. Is there a way to lock the notes to prevent changes? As a reformed Dentrix user, I know that Dentrix required a month end that effectively prevented altering previous entries. How do I go about that in OD?

In OD, once you write a note and click OK, it's going to stay there forever. Even if you "delete" or "edit" a note, OD keeps all your notes forever (hidden) and even datestamps it. You can see that if you click on the Audit feature in one of the tabs on top of the progress notes. So, it's impossible to alter your notes without leaving a trace. Even so, it's recommeded to make a backup onto a disk that you can give to a third party (such as your lawyer) every now and then so that there's additional proof that your notes have not been altered.
