Incomplete USB Backup

I wonder if anyone else has seen this behavior --> when backing up to a USB key, the program will close during the middle of the images backup. And when I check out the data, sure enough, it didn't back up all of the images. The workaround has been to erase all Open Dental files on the USB key in advance of the backup. Then it's 100%.

The database size is small 42 mb data and 628 mb images - the flash drives are 4gb.

some USB do have problem copy large file. You should replace your USB key. It is a triangle of Speed, Reliability, and Convenient. You can't have all 3. USB tends to corrupts a lot more than hard drive, you best bet would be the laptop hard drive for backup. Or try this Syntoy by microsoft it works quite well for me.

This allow you to set any folder set to be sync, and it only sync the one that are new. Save you many writes on the USB key

And it could also be a bug. But it's going to have to be low priority for us right now. We're pushing really hard on our web services version. Very busy.

Donn't know if this issue is still a problem, but this problem is usually because a file has some weird permissions at the point where it stopped copying (the next file).

The reason I suspect this is that deleting the existing backup makes it go away. You see, there is a read only or locked file in your AZ folder, and deleting it from the backup location only works once because it gets dumped there again. You need to remove or reset the permissions on the file(s) causing the problem.

Hmmm--- funny you should mention that Nathan - there is one prompt for a R/O file in the A-Z folder. I like your explanation and will try it in the a.m.
