I've posted a similar hint before for other lists. Here is my workaround to make the drug list more manageable. I include a separator for each letter of the alphabet.
So... there is an generic drug named "A......................., B...................." etc. This gives a little more order to the long list.
You can also create 'dummy' entries like this for other lists in the programs. I use "----------------------------" as a separator especially in teh edit appointment window; I have common appointments divided by type ie) xray, no fee visits and checks, emergency visits.
Also, I use the Hyphen trick to sort the long list of diseases into categories of allergy, diseases, issues during tx (ie. subject to fainting, smokes 1ppd, etc.)
Hope this helps. I'd love to post a few jpgs of my screens, but don't believe I can do that here.
