Availability and usage in Oz

Post by whorsman » Sat Dec 13, 2008 4:17 pm

Good morning - Since I can’t find an email address on this site to direct my questions I will post them here.

Is there a contact for this excellent software in Australia (Ideally Brisbane) and if so who?

Is there a fixed monthly fee in Australian dollars or will this be USD subject to the exchange rate?

Does one monthly fee allow me to install the software on multiple computers within the practice?

Can the software be accessed/updated/viewed etc from multiple computers simultaneously?

We are happy to support the software from here. Or there might be someone in Australia who is able to give you adequate support. I will have to look on Monday morning. The monthly fee will be in US dollars. Yes, unlimited computers in one office. Yes, it is definitely designed to be used on many computers all at once. We've seen as many as 60 computers simultaneously accessing one database, but I'm sure the limit is much higher.

We have several users who we support in austrailia... it is $89 month US, you could prepay in 12 month increments and recieve a 10% discount and also avoid fluctuations (you would know each year what your cost would be). You can call or email, if you call we can return the call to avoid toll charges.

We are using opendental sucessfully in sydney. We are planning on writing a HICAPs plugin now in preparation for our next opendental upgrade.

If your interested in supporting this work, please contact me on sales@justcontrol.com.

Just interested how things in open dental compare to say oasis, or one of the other biggy dental software companies in australia.

Considering starting from scratch, and want to go digital to start with.

Does open dental deal with australian item numbers, and hicaps easily?

The items numbers are no problem. But we don't have hicaps.

Can you email me the names and numbers of half a dozen users or so?

If i was in the states, i would go with open, but not sure if we have a critical mass of users here, the lack of hicaps may or may not be an issue

Many thanks

Why the price difference?
($89 vs $139/$99)

Because it's missing features that many dentists consider critical. It would be like trying to sell dental software in the US without any included procedure codes and with no ability to do e-claims. It's just not worth as much.

I'm in Australia and want to download a Trial version of OD
http://www.opendental.com/trial.html
Should I select the Canadian version or US one?
Is this somehow set by the time zone settings?
In Australia we use FDI tooth numbers
Should I use the Canadian version or am I better off to set up FDI in the US version ?
Do I also need MySQL for the trial version on a stand alone laptop?
I am using Practiceworks on a network and using Pervasive SQL on my laptop for the odd occasion I take it to the office
The MySQL won't interfere with the Pervasive SQL will it? (dumb question I know)

Oh, sorry. I think it will automatically install the US database for you. It will sense that you are not in Canada, based on your Windows country settings, so the only appropriate database remaining would be the US database. The trial version comes with dummy codes instead of US codes, anyway, so that's not really an issue. As for tooth numbering, that's just a simple setting. See the lower right of this window:
http://www.opendental.com/manual/modulesetup.html
Yes, our installer will install MySQL for you, and you will need it even for a stand alone laptop. Only one computer in the office needs to run MySQL, so once you start using it in the office you would typically move it to a computer that was not a laptop.
MySQL and Pervasive SQL are totally different programs. They will not interfere with each other at all.

bantyg,

Open Dental has converted from a product called "Oasys" in the past which may or may not be the same as the product you are describing. If you are willing to work with our conversions team on this their direct contact is conversions@opendental.com . Our conversions team regularly converts from new software and they may be able to help you get to the "real" version of Open Dental.

Cheers,
