Mask email password

Post by brentwood » Mon Oct 27, 2008 6:35 am

Could we mask the password in email setup in "Setup e-mail" window? Thanks.

It is. You have to be NOT logged in as an admin for the masking to work. I just clarified that in the manual.

Thanks for the quick response. I don't see it masked in 6.0.7 and 6.1.1. The password I was talking abut is the "email setup" window at setup/email. Thanks.

And you're not logged in as admin?

Sorry that I misread your first comment. I logged in as admin. That is why it was clear text. I see little need to make that distinction. Can we all make it masked for all users? Sometime I login as admin and forget to logout. I don't want to run the risk to let other people see my password and access my emails. We mask the passwords for all users anyway. Thanks.

Sorry, there are no plans to change it. Don't stay logged in as admin. Admin mode is for very specific functions only, not for general managment and setup functions. The admin should have a different user for those things. And even a third user for ordinary use if they are worried about accidentally leaving their management user running.

anyone with admin rights, not just Admin, can see the password.

Admin rights should not be freely given out like candy. There should really only be one.
