Credit Card Compliance?

Post by savvy » Fri Oct 17, 2008 9:30 am

My credit card processing company is First Data. I'm told I need to comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards(DSS). For the pleasure, I get charged $119 per year. Apparently, First Data has contracted with a company called Security Metrics. They state that all I have to do is answer 21 questions that will be emailed to me.
First Data and Security Metrics state that if I do not "comply" I will be charged a monthly fee of $19.95 until I do comply.

Any body know anything about this?

I'm not surprised. The government is moving in the direction of stronger enforcement for small businesses. So far, there has not been any actual enforcement for businesses the size of a dental office.

What a bunch of crap!!!
I had no idea what they were asking from their questionaire, so I called the Tech support line.
The tech said, "Just answer YES to all the questions whether or not they seem applicable to you. If you answer NO to any one, you won't be found to be in compliance."

For this crap, I get to pay $119.95.
