Creating claims - 2 problems

1) I have the default billing dentist set to our clinic name with it's own NPI#. We are a non-profit and are not owned by any dentist that works here, so we have always submitted our claims under the clinic Tax ID and NPI # in our old system. Every time I create a new claim in Open Dental it tells me I can't send the claim until I enter a Billing Provider License # - which doesn't exist. We just went live Friday, so I haven't tried submitting the claims yet - but will I have a problem sending them from Open Dental if that information is missing? If not, can that message be removed?

2) I have a clinic setup with the default place of service as "SkilledNursFac". The completed procedures are automatically assigned the correct default place of service of "SkilledNursFac". When I create the claim it sets it as "Office" and I have to change it manually.

1. If it truly is a dummy provider, I believe a dummy license # would be fine. I don't think it's strictly required by the carriers. So put a "1" in that box.

In ClaimConnect you can set up a Default Billing Provider which would be your clinic name, TIN, NPI, etc. Generally we just recommend using the license number for one of your practicing dentists. The only payer that tends to care about the license number is Delta CA. If a provider practices in more than one location they pre-pend a digit to the license number to determine where the check will go. For instance if the provider license number is "12345", his second office he would need to use "212345", etc. Sending the extra digit has never caused problems for other payers.

I know this is an old thread, but this has become a bigger problem lately. Delta Dental (all, not just DD of CA) has started processing claims as "out of network" and sending the checks to the patients instead of us because we have a "1" for the license # under the billing dentist. Can the billing dentist license # requirement be removed? If not, will using one of our dentist's license #'s under the billing dentist cause the payments to be under the dentist's name instead of our practice name?

OK, I just made that change to 7.9, but it hasn't quite been released yet.
