procedure codes credit to practice vs. provider

Post by LSOrtho » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:56 am

We are an orthodontic practice. Is there a way to default certain procedure codes to the practice (or main doctor) that occur on the same visit to the associate provider? IE, product sales, xrays, specific assistant assigned duties, like Flouride, etc.
so that those procedures are not computed as part of the associate production?
Thanks.

On each appointment there is room for two providers: Dentist and Hygienist. You are describing codes that seem to be hygeinist codes. So you could set up the practice provider to be the hygienist on each appointment. This can be be automated by assigning the hygienist for the operatory. Then, just make sure that the appropriate procedure codes are set to "trigger recall". That should do what you want.

LSOrtho, you can also set up the hygienist who performs the duties as a provider to track that production separately.

Jordan,
1. Should the procedures be set (Lists, Procedure Codes, ...) to 'Is Hygiene' or 'Triggers Recall'?
2. What if the associate performs the hygiene procedures (no hygienist), but there are also certain items like sale of adjuncts (toothpaste, etc) that should be credited to the practice? Should then all the hygiene procedures be removed as 'Is Hygiene', and only these procedures left as such in order to maintain the single 'Set Complete' or just set those complete from Chart without including them in the appointment? Is there a better option?
3. On a slight aside, what happens if multiple providers see a patient in the same appointment to do different (non-hygiene) procedures? Must separate appointments be set up?

1. Is Hygiene is the flag that's important for this discussion.
2. For unusual situations, just change the providers for the various procedures after setting the appointment complete.
3. Same as #2.
