Notes on the schedule

Post by ellingsworthdds » Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:57 am

I would love to be able to put notes on my schedule. As a previous SoftDent user, this is a feature I miss greatly. IE:mark legal holidays w/name of the holiday;add a note that dr. has a lunch scheduled, note when hygenists are switching days. Am I just missing the instructions on how to do this or does it not exist? I am currently using version 5.5.14. Thank you!

I am reasonably sure Dr. Sparks didn't intend these to be used like we are, but here goes:
We use the "Blockouts" in the appointment module for this purpose. I have set up different blockouts for "out of office", "medical waste pickup", "employee off", each with its own color. For the "out of office", we set the time we will be away, and under note we add the reason- lunch with specialist, golfing, CE seminar, etc. For the others we set the time about an hour prior to our start time, that way the blockout is visible to the daily schedule, yet doesn't interfere with scheduling. It's not a perfect system, but it is a work around.

I created an extra operatory (entitled notes) and a patient named "Notes". This adds an extra column in the appointment book view.

Then I schedule a procedure lasting however long for "Mr. Notes" and in the Detail section, place the appropriate comment.

Yes, we use an extra column on the schedule labeled notes just like Rickliftig. We put all kinds of dated notes for patients by clicking the "NOTE for patient" button in the other appointments window. We use this most for follow ups on certain days, etc...

Then we have a dummy pt called "Note, Office" that we created for notes pertaining to the whole office or for individuals as ellingsworthdds is wanting. Works like a charm.

We use a combination of customized block-outs and have also created a "note" patient that we consistently use just for notes added to the schedule as well. On the days we do have an extra column, we put our to-do lists there. The pop-ups are handy when assigning notes to specific patients such as " RECALL OVERDUE or FAMILY RECALLS OVEDUE" or collection notes. These show at the time of check in and check out - a good time for reminders.
