Backup server

Post by khdilger » Tue Oct 30, 2012 5:47 pm

I need to get a backup server setup and I had a question. Right now I have my OpenDental server using crashplan to backup to crashplan central as well as another computer in the office. The other computer is not currently setup to run as a server and I need to confirm that all I need to do is install MySQL server on the new computer.

Is the best way to get it installed to download the trial version and run the "Update MySQL" button, or should I select install a new server?

Yes, install mySQL as well as .NET 3.5 and 4.0.

Yes, the trial installer is the fastest way to install mySQL. .NET is also available from http://www.opendental.com/manual/dotnet.html.

Know what version of Open Dental you are using. If before v7.8 you need to use our 5.0 installer. This page has a link to our 5.0 update file: http://opendental.com/manual/mysql55.html
Also, on your backup server you will want to have the same version of Open Dental installed that your office is using. The trial will install 11.0.41. You can simply run the Setup.exe in your current OpenDentImages share folder to use the same version as all the other computers in your office are using.
The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.
