That depends on the contract with the insurance company. If it doesn't specifically say that you have to charge the contracted fees for non covered procedures, then you can charge your normal fees.

This can happen when the procedure has more than one insurance estimate. It can happen if the patient has two or more plans and it can happen if the patient has only one plan, but the insurance plan was entered after the procedure was treatment planned. Do you mean that these are patients without insurance and pay cash? If they are they are not supposed to show up on this report. Something must be wrong in the way these patients were defined as non insured.

If you make the note using the record of the patient that did not show up, you automatically have their name and the note is saved in their progress notes. Just click on the appointment, delete it, and then click on the "Make Appointment" button and choose "Note for patient". It would be even better...

In our office we delete the broken appointment and place a patient note in the same time slot. That way you know it was a broken appointment and who had the appointment. You can write in the note if it was a no-show or if the patient had an excuse.

If you mean an individual patient whose name you know, just open the patient's account module. Any claims in red mean they haven't been paid. If you mean all outstanding claims, you can use the "Outstanding insurance claims" report. It will show you the names of all patients that have unpaid claims....

I've never had any insurance company require me to identify area of the mouth or tooth number in the limited exam code. They usually do require a narrative where we say what tooth or what area is involved.

To make a text bold, go to the sheets setup and double click on the sheet you want to edit. Then double click on the text and a window will come up where you select the font and a checkbox where you select Bold.

If anybody has this problem, right click on the Open Dental icon. Then go to properties and in the compatibility tab select "Disable visual themes". Open Dental will then startup without problems.

Yes. In the chart module, go to the "Show"tab in the upper right hand side. Create a chart view that does not include "Amount" and then use that view to print the notes.

It happens only with some patients that have several pages of notes. The last note in one of the pages either prints with the bottom part of the letters cut off or doesn't print the line at all. The only reason we set them to inactive is to let us know that the patient's old things (x-rays, documents, etc) have been stored away. Maybe we could leave them as active and add a field in the family module where we can mark them as "long time no see".

I don't think OD can do #1, but you could request it as a new feature. Number 2 and 3 can be done. You would have to make a fee schedule for each of the patient categories. Some insurance companies have both a subscriber ID for the main subscriber and individual patient IDs for the dependent family members. The e claims format sends both numbers when they exist. Yes, I use a Wacom tablet to sign progress notes. It's not useful for patient's signatures because you have to get used to signing on something were you don't see any ink and the area for signing is small. For a patient I would prefer one of the topaz pads that show what you write as you sign on it....

I have my doubts on the acceptance this will have among dentists. It looks like having access to the information will not be free for us providers. I think dentists will not have a good enough incentive to participate in this unless we are mandated by the federal government or the insurance companie...

I use recall cards from www.mbsdental.com, 4 per page. We've also used some from Medical Arts Press. We print them on a Brother Laserjet p2035n printer. They come out beautiful and all you have to do is stick the postage stamp on them and send them out.

I went to a continuing ed on the topic a few days ago. The parameters that the federal government set to be a meaningful user and thus qualify for funds are basically impossibe for the average dentist to meet. Seems like nobody thought about dentists when they wrote this law.

Are you using the Alt-PrtScn key combination to copy the screen image from the insurance company website? If you do that, all you have to do is paste it into the images module for the patient and it is copied as a JPG.

I think the difference is because the outstanding insurance report gives you the amount that was billed instead of the amount they really owe you. In most cases if you bill your regular fees to insurance, that amount will be higher than what they will pay you.

Using GotoMy PC or similar software is fine, but it's important that all OD users learn how to backup and restore their databases. It trains you for when your office server crashes and you need to get some other computer to take over as the server.

I have version 6.7.30 and windows 7 64 bit in one of my machines. I can do the backup from that machine without problems. One thing I did do that could be different was that I did the backup on an empty USB drive, so it was a completely new backup.

I find that it stays logged in on my Windows XP computers, but not in my Vista computers. I have thenm set up exactly the same. The only difference is that Vista has an "enable protected mode" option in the internet security options.

In OD, once you write a note and click OK, it's going to stay there forever. Even if you "delete" or "edit" a note, OD keeps all your notes forever (hidden) and even datestamps it. What you're thinking is fine. RAID is when you have a computer that has two or more drives where everything that goes into one drive gets automatically copied to the other, so if your C: drive fails, you just use the other drive.

This is probably because you have the webmd client program installed only in the computer that sends the claims. When you try to send from the other computers the webmd program can't be found.
