Comm log and future plans for OD

Hi Jordan - What are your thoughts on including the commlog in the audit trail? I'm curious, because these notes could be considered part of the legal record as they are often communications with the patient. Also, I know it has been requested before (and I know you have been a little busy - hope yo...

Order in the referral list

Ordering the referral list takes a little old-time computer knowledge. Back in the dawn of computers, every letter, every punctuation mark, had a number value. This was referred to as ASCII Code (you can easliy Google the list and associated numbers). In OD lists, certain characters will be listed b...

We have a Dymo Duo which works fine - The Appointment card label is simply a standard address label (sometimes needs a little trim). It especially works well from the back office when I want to set up a specific time for a patient - then it prints out at the front desk.

Found the Source of a mini-crash

Occasionally when dragging an appointment, the box being dragged would get 'stranded' along the way and the program would become unresponsive. I finally figured out what has been happening - I have hesitated in a smooth drag and accidentally clicked the right mouse button. At this time, the only fix...

Re: Data conversion question

Lew - I was amazed by how much data James was able to get from my program (Intellident). If you have a small practice, it will serve as a starting point and allow you to review the basic data (name address and phone and insurance) before procedrues are added and perhaps eliminate old info that is no...

Re: 4 piece Rx paper

Jorge - The paper from Microformat inc. http://www.4securitypaper.com, http://www.rxpaper.com, http://www.highsecuritychecks.com (all the same company). $70 for 500 sheets. It is rapidly becoming state law for all prescriptions to be printed on tamper-proof paper. I ordered the 8.5x11 four part form...

At this time, I am shredding them. I'm also keep them in a locked area as I assume they would be a fairly desirable item.

4 piece Rx paper

I am using 4 piece, tamper-proof Rx paper (It's perforated in quarters). Is there a way to print more than one Rx at a time (for the same patient of course) so that I can utilize more than just one quarter?

Re: Treatment Presentation / Patient Education Systems

Dear Opensource- I have contemplated CAESY too, but nothing beats your clinical acumen and rapport with the patient. Last week, I did a complex case presentation using OD. It consisted of a series of the patient's photos, chart on OD, fmx and models. The photos and films were on OD and I could easil...

5.9 - nice work!

Jordan - I have been playing with the refinements on 5.9 - nice work! I have been thinking about all of the extra steps each day (back into my office for referral forms and Rx forms) and the sheets will probably save an extra ten to twenty minutes of shuffling paper. Plus you'll be able to read what...

Would like to add...

I have found that several times, when a treatment has changed from what ahs been planned, I would like to add a procedure code on the fly from the appointment display (ie when setting the appointment complete). Of course, the single click list is available, but to add anything else, it's necessary t...

Newbie Queries and wishlist

So I have been using OD for a month! I've got some newbie questions and some ideas that I have lifted from my old program. Consider this my wish list and also consider that I may have to go back and RTODM (Read the Open Dental Manual). 1) I would like to include the time on all reports. There are da...

Re: Notes on the schedule

I created an extra operatory (entitled notes) and a patient named "Notes". This adds an extra column in the appointment book view.

Then I schedule a procedure lasting however long for "Mr. Notes" and in the Detail section, place the appropriate comment.

Quick tip to change the date

The date fields can be easily adjusted forward or back by pressing + or - . Very handy when entering corrections or missed tx.

Re: Cleaning up duplicate insurances

Thanks Jordan - i had figured it was just the anal-retentive dentist in me coming out. One of my patients suggested that if I really liked IT that much, I should start having policy meetings with myself and begin drawing up an organization chart (for myself).

Cleaning up duplicate insurances

After our database conversion, there were many insurance plan duplicates generated. For example, Helen D. not only had her primary plan, but a secondary, tertiary and quatenary. These were a left over from my old program that never deleted plans when they were changed. During the conversion, it was ...

Dividers in Lists

I got this idea from Firefox 3: Divider lines help your eye move to the proper group of procedures in Quick Add. For example, I have exams grouped - divider line- Xrays grouped - divider line etc. so the list looks something like this: XmPr XmPrBWX2 New Patient -------------------------- PaX BWX2 BW...

First Attempt at SQL

Having the ability to pull out data from Open Dental is like having the keys to the kingdom! This script is modeled on one I have been using in my old management system. I merelymodded one of the SQL examples in the OD Help files. This script sorts your receivables by balance owed, and aging. In oth...

Re: print custom labels?

If only Intellident had been open source. Then, it would have been impossible for it to ever die. Tell me about it. They were a wonderful small company in Lebanon, New Hampshire - very responsive to the customer's needs and a good product. But I suppose that the joys and profit from a small busines...

Re: print custom labels?

Jordan- That makes sense about the selector and the 'get all' button. As I think about it, because we've been doing lots of setup and data checking, we have been using it much more for selecting all. So in day-to-day situation, you're right, I wouldn't be using it much. Also What about making the ch...

Re: print custom labels?

Jordan - I tried out the 5.8 beta and like the flexibility that sheets can give - this customization will serve us all very well. So while it is on the table, several requests: 1) is there any way to make (and set) the selector window wider? When I attempt to drag the corner, there are no handles. 2...

Re: Hide inactive box

Also- In that same window (pateint selection), the slider does not appear until the 'get all' button is pushed. Wouldn't it be advantageous to have the slider always availabale? Or does this slow down an older system?

Hide inactive box

Hi all - As likely the newest OD user in the OD universe, I am gradually learning the ins and outs of the program. I am sure that I will be posting many queries over the next few months (especially once my front desk starts using the program like a real person (not a geek)). So #1: Is there any way ...

Re: LogMeIn Graphics Settings

I have been setting my Logmein to "match resolution" - this seems to give the best compromise of graphics vs. use. I have also set the 3d settings to off. What I find strikes me very weird about a remote connection is when I access OD help over the internet through my remote connection... sort of li...
