TWAIN compatible webcam for patient image capture

What current TWAIN-compatible webcam model can anyone recommend for front desk use for patient image capture? We want to be able to control it directly from OpenDental.

Scanner Recommendation for digitizing x-rays?

We currently own an Epson Perfection V750 Pro, which is awfully slow and with an upcoming requirement of having to digitize the records of 50 patients for the past five years, we are looking to get something faster. I've looked at the Microtek Medi-2200 Plus, but with no reviews out there and the hi...

Re: MySQL EventID 10 Errors

I've started over with a fresh installation on Windows Server 2008 R2 and left all the settings on default and I'm still getting the same error. I assume that the MySQL that came as part of the Trial Version is the correct one. The errors still appear like before.

MySQL EventID 10 Errors

I keep on getting these SQL errors that are registering in the Event Logs. Is there any way to fix this issue to make them stop appearing? Re: X-Charge issues I've come across

Very interesting observation indeed. Unfortunately "Power User" has been deprecated with Vista/Windows 7 and as such it's really not recommended in an Active Directory domain or workgroup environment. With the Power Users group in Windows 7 and Vista, the elevated privileges have been removed. The P...

Any experiences with Patterson Imaging

I was wondering if anybody is using Open Dental with Patterson Imaging? Since Patterson Dental is our main supplier for all things dental, they recommended the AirTechniques ScanX phosphorplate system and are selling it to us with the Patterson Imaging included. I wanted to go with Apteryx XRayVisio...

Re: Has anybody gone totally paperless?

I appreciate your thorough response and it seems that "doing it like the Swedes" won't be an option. In other words, just setting everything up and then switching over-night to "pure" paperless doesn't seem quite feasible anymore. One of the things that the office manager wants though is to start wi...

Re: Has anybody gone totally paperless?

This may sound like a joke, but we haven't done anything to get to paperless yet. Our plan is to get the Airtechniques ScanX for radio-graphs and we plan to switch from Dentrix to Open Dental. We are using Dentrix to print out some insurance claims and keep the bare minimum of patient data in there....

Has anybody gone totally paperless?

We are in the process of switching from physical charts and x-rays to paperless and digital. Can anyone share their experience in how to prioritize the changeover? Can we be truly paperless by having PDF forms on a kiosk and signature pads instead of having to scan paper forms? I would think that go...

Re: What is your "Oh no my server crashed" plan?

@joshuab: For those not keen to fool around with mySQLdump there is a software called dbForge MySQL backup tool. For $99 you get a GUI and together with Windows Scheduler you are good to go. http://www.devart.com/dbforge/mysql/studio/mysql-backup.html I wanted to know if anybody uses this dbForge p...

ESET NOD32 Antivirus

Does anyone have experience using ESET NOD32 Antivirus with Open Dental? We currently use that on both the Windows 2008 R2 Server and Windows 7 workstations, but I didn't see it mentioned on the Open Dental Antivirus page. We chose it several years ago, because it had a small memory footprint and wa...

Open Dental vs. Exan PowerPractice

Can anybody provide me with some useful pros and cons? It seems that Exan Mercedes PowerPractice uses the MySQL database as well and one of the dentists prefers it over OD, because at the university where she teaches they use the Exan AxiUm. I'd appreciate some input, since besides OD being Open Sou...

Chairside charting with Tablet PC?

I'm curious if anyone can tell me more about the difficulties or caveats of chairside charting using a tablet pc with OD. We are planning to go paperless and this seems like the most difficult and unpredictable part. How is speed affected compared to paper charting?

Technical Feasibilities moving from Dentrix

I've spent a few hours doing research on alternative products and your product seems most promising. I come from an IT background and being ignorant of the dental practice management software industry only in the last few days of talking with technical support at various vendors did I realize how ma...
