Re: Backup speed with USB 3?

Yes, it is a USB 3 port. It is a direct connection to the port, there is no USB 2 extension cable or anything.

Backup speed with USB 3?

My daily USB backups of the Open Dental database and the Images folder have been taking a long time recently (almost 10 minutes). I have been using USB 2 devices, so I recently got a fast USB 3 flash drive and have used it on a new computer (with SSD and USB 3), and the backups have not been any fas...

Re: HIPAA Compliant Email

I would like to set up a secure email option for communicating between providers. I am a specialist and I deal with several referring offices, with varying kinds of email setups and practice management software. I like the concept of encryption through Open Dental, to keep things simple on my end an...

Practical use of Task Lists

I have dabbled in using the Task Lists, but get confused often enough that I end up writing down my to-do lists on paper. I have read the online manual, http://www.opendental.com/manual/taskList.html, and find it concise but lacking a good, big-picture workflow. This seems to be enough to prevent me...

Disabling the "Choose Database" window on startup

Every time I login to one of my workstations, I get the "Choose Database" window (http://www.opendental.com/manual/choosedatabase.html) Every time I log in, I check the box that says "Do not show this window on startup (this computer only)" yet it still shows up every time. I can successfully log in...

Version 13.1 is in beta. How long until final version?

The beta version was released 2/12/13. An approximate time window would be helpful, e.g. 1-3 months from now, 6-12 months, etc.

Re: Re-linking completed procedures with an appointment

I found a work-around. It isn't particularly elegant, but it works. 1) I create a new appointment from the Appointment module and add a non-fee procedure to it (e.g. postop visit). 2) I drag this appointment from the Pinboard to the Appointment time 3) I double click the appointment. The usual list ...

Re-linking completed procedures with an appointment

I have completed procedures (e.g. exams) that I forgot to attach to an appointment. Two questions: 1) Can I create an appointment and add this completed procedure to it? I want it to show up in my Appointment module. 2) Can I run a report so I can identify all of the procedures that I forgot to atta...

Best way to send reports/update letters to referring GPs?

I am a periodontist and I send many letters to referring dentists, as both exam reports and treatment updates. I would like to write letters from within Open Dental so that everything is logged with the software (I had been filling out forms and scanning and importing them into the Image Module, but...

Why is a prosthesis date required for a periodic exam, D0120

I am a periodontist and I use the code D0120 for a periodontal re-evaluation after scaling and root planing. Open Dental requires me to enter a prosthesis date for EVERY patient who has the D0120 code, even if they have no restorations.

No quadrant options for perio procedures

I am having problems with electronic submissions for perio procedures because, with the exception of SRP, the codes for periodontal surgical services don't have the option of selecting the teeth or quadrant. In particular, I have run into problems with D4261 (osseous surgery, 1-3 teeth) and D4273 (c...

Re: Why aren't my preauth fees reflecting estimated coverage

I called support, and the Open Dental software provides no estimates of coverage because it's a preauthorization.

I did what you suggested, the fee schedule is set up properly and has fees for that code, and it didn't help.

Why aren't my preauth fees reflecting estimated coverage?

I am submitting a preauthorization for a connective tissue graft (4273) and in spite of correctly adding the percentage coverage in the insurance section of the Family Module, the estimated insurance coverage (80%) ends up being printed as 0%, or submitted electronically as 0%. This doesn't help!

Re: Help with networking on virtual machines on a Mac

I got it fixed! I hired a local IT guy and for $65 and half an hour of my time, it's up and working. For those interested in knowing what happened, here goes: I manually set everything to a fixed/static IP address within the virtual machines. I had to change some settings in VMware Fusion 4 (Virtual...

Thanks for your input, both of you. I'll reply to both at the same time. >Based on those photos, it looks like you have 2 DHCP servers running. This will cause problems. One of the machines isn't even on the same subnet as the others, because it's IP is assigned by the second DHCP server. I'm not re...

Help with networking on virtual machines on a Mac

Short version: My hard-wired Windows virtual machines running on Macs aren't talking to each other, neither with Open Dental nor with any other program Embellished version: I am setting up a new office and I have Mac hardware, hard-wired via Cat6 ethernet cables through an ethernet switch (http://ww...
