Scan at 300 DPI, gray scale. You have to have a transparency adapter so the light source comes through the x-ray and does not reflect off. Gives excellent results. Microtek gives best scanning results. Let me know if this helps

I use a color lighter than the restoration that I will I will replace. This helps me to double check the area next time I do an exam. I then enter a procedure button of watch so I check it off as I am doing the exam.

Sorry, carefully read your original post. The image on the second monitor can be done if the image is opened in the chart itself in the tabs. Then it has its own window. Thanks, never tried that but it works.

I use dual monitors on a couple of machines. Go into your settings for monitors for windows by right clicking on your desktop free space. Make sure you have both monitors highlighted. I do Autonotes wiith 2-3 responses for each area ie; WNL, pathology (then edit the pathology) or common abnomalities like high frena attachment listed as a choice. Gives a lot of consistency with your exam especially when training staff.

I have been backing up at night offsite with MozyPro. I run Win 2000 server so I sched the mysql to stop for 1 hr to run MozyPro.(Win 2000 doesn't have shadowbackup) I need to know if a workstation has OD open when mysql is shut down will I corrupt my database?

I have found Microtek scanners to give good contrast. You have to buy an MTMA from Mictotek direct or Amazon. I use i800 for pans and cephs and a i320 with a MTMA for pa's. i800 has a built in transparancy adapter. I have scanned x-rays since 1995. Hesitant to move to full digital because of cost.
