Re: Much more efficient way of charting

I like it. I think the example is a pretty extreme scenario. The current process typically involves about 4 clicks per item and usually doesn't involve opening a window. Yours involves about 4 keystrokes instead. It might be fun for us to add keyboard shortcuts for the frequent mouse actions when c...

Re: Much more efficient way of charting

Scripts in general are sometimes associated with a security risk, but that generally refers to the risk of downloading a script that you are assuming does X, when the developer has hidden malicious code in it and it really does X + Y without you knowing. This type of automation doesn't really pose a...

Re: Much more efficient way of charting

Thanks! Since you asked for it, here is the other GUI that I created to code for recall visits (both billable codes as well as our dummy codes to track metrics) and create a custom note tailored off what options were selected. https://youtu.be/wfvtfY3QEDQ I have also created a bunch of keyboard shor...

Much more efficient way of charting

I'm a dentist, but also have a background in computer science. I've found all the EHRs that I've used so far, dental and medical, severely lacking in the efficiency and UI/UX department. Charting is a prime example. Every EHR that I have used relies on some method of manually entering data one tooth...

Enabling Messaging Buttons in Tight Integration w/ eCW

We're running Open Dental in tight integration with eCW, so a lot of functions are disabled. Is it possible to enable the messaging buttons so hygienists can message the dentist when ready for an exam? Thanks!

Treatment finder query excluding pts scheduled with dentist

I am trying to run a query to find patients with treatment planned procedures (by certain providers) newer than one year old who don't have appointments scheduled with a dentist. With the built in treatment finder report I can almost get there. I can run a report of patients with recent treatment pl...

Re: Is it bad to force taskkill Open Dental?

Thanks. It is sort of my fault that so many windows are open. I don't have a dedicated workstation yet to work on notes, so i end up having a few minutes and sitting down, opening up a few Open Dental windows to knock out a few notes, and then getting kicked off the computer before I finish them all...

Is it bad to force taskkill Open Dental?

We are running 14.1.14.0 with tight integration to eCW, and sometimes I end up having way too many open dental windows open at once, and I wan't to close them all. I can't just right click on the menubar icon and close all windows because we use a lot of popups and those windows don't close via that...

Re: Delays normal when tx planning or writing notes?

Thanks guys! I work for a community health center so my influence is limited compared to a private practice, but it is great to hear there are some things to look forward to when/if we update. I'll check in with the IT dept and discuss what you've suggested. Thanks again!

Delays normal when tx planning or writing notes?

We are running 14.1.14.0, and have Open Dental set up in tight integration with eCW. We have several offices that all share the same data, and I am one of the general dentists, not the IT guy, so I don't know how the network is implemented. But I'm trying to make things as efficient as possible, red...

Re: Denture code without treatment area for eCW

Jason, I emailed the error to support. It looks like it is the clearinghouse that is giving the error, not the insurance. As a newer dentist working for a community health center that outsources the billing, I don't know much about the insurance side of things, or what clearinghouse we use. But, wha...

Re: Denture code without treatment area for eCW

Jason,

Just checking, do you want me to do some digging and try to get a screenshot of the actual dental, our is it sufficient if I copy and paste the error they send back? Thanks.

Re: Denture code without treatment area for eCW

Jason, It's insane, especially being a programmer myself. Why they can't just drop that data is beyond me (other than it being in their best interest to minimize paying claims). It drives me crazy when sites do things like this (throwing errors if there is a trailing space in a text field). I work a...

Denture code without treatment area for eCW

We are running 14.1.14.0 and have open dental passing the billing codes to eClinicalWorks. In order to have Open Dental paint the graphical tooth chart for a complete max or mand denture, you have to have the code have a treatment area of arch. However, when D5110 and D5120 are passed to eCW, the U ...

Treatment area required for dentures to paint chart

When adding a complete denture to the treatment plan, it will only paint the graphical chart if the procedure code has the treatment area of arch selected AND the user has an arch selected. However, this means that every time you treatment plan a denture, the procedure info box pops up to prompt for...

Unable to Edit Quick Buttons

I'm trying to customize Open Dental. I'd like to change the Quick Buttons (where it shows ML, DL, etc for Ant Composites, MOD, MO, DO for Post composites and Amalgams, and Sealants). However, when I follow the instructions and go to Setup>Procedure Buttons, All I see is "Common Procedures" under But...
