Re: Window server 2022

I'm going to make a slightly controversial and perhaps not perfectly accurate statement: A modern server-based business application that runs natively on a modern Windows Server without virtualization, should work on the same Windows Server version under virtualization (using hardware that supports ...

Alternative to DentalXchange/Claimconnect for eclaims?

I need to switch to a different eclaims Clearinghouse to test/resolve a problem with claims to certain insurers (our most common). Interesteed to know which service you are using and if you think they are worth considering - we are only using eclaims and not the other common services provided by the...

Re: Does abandoning Patterson imaging mean I have to abandon Open Dental?

thanks for your reply! The issue with resolution isn't the twain driver, but the number of bits Open Dental recognizes/stores. So, even if the twain driver is perfect, my understanding is that OD simply doesn't store the full bits from images as one would expect in imaging. When you say it doesn't ...

Microphone/speaker for voice perio charting

We're planning to try out voice perio charting & I need to add a speaker and a microphone to the PC's we're using in the hygiene ops. I'm trying to figure out what form factor is best. I'm thinking the hygienist might prefer a wireless microphone they wear, but probably the only way to get this is i...

Re: Does abandoning Patterson imaging mean I have to abandon Open Dental?

I've been feeling the same way with my imaging platform (Vixwin Platinum) and the pain points have gotten to the spot where I am seriously considering creating an open source product to replace it. Currently it crashes on some data transfers with no logic or error messages. If Apteryx was doing it ...

Re: Does abandoning Patterson imaging mean I have to abandon Open Dental?

I'm not sure such a thing exists at any price. But since cost doesn't seem to be a major factor, can't you just sit a new employee down for a few months and have them manually move images over with export/import? That would cost about $10k. We've thought about doing something along those lines as a...

Does abandoning Patterson imaging mean I have to abandon Open Dental?

So I have the latest version of standalone Patterson Imaging for Xrays, which is ancient. I have Schick sensors. I am under Patterson Maintenance and there is no upgrade path. Its been 5-6 years without an update, and it is running a very old version of Sybase [which like OD's mySQL/Maria is also no...

Thanks for posting this! I'd been considering moving from my ancient [but latest version] of Patterson Imaging (which runs an ancient version of Sybase) to Apteryx. Now I can cross that option off the list.

To fix Adobe Reader preview in OD images module (if it is still using adobe reader) Open Adobe Reader DC by typing that in your start menu: Click the Edit Menu Click the Preferences Menu Click the Security (enhanced) section. UNCHECK "Protected Mode on Startup" Accept the warning. Push OK It will w...

PDF Hell - Acrobat DC not a solution

Running the latest non-Beta OD version 20.2.40.0, PC's are Windows 10 Pro with up to date patches. Server is Microsoft Server 2019 Standard. I've read a number of posts on here going back at least 3 years about how difficult it is to deal with Acrobat and Open Dental, and various tricks to attempt t...

Re: New Server vs. Synology NAS

I have, and love our Synology NAS. However, I think it is way to weak as a server to handle OD. I find it's best use a a private cloud with file syncing, like a personal, private Dropbox.

Re: Alternatives to Lighthouse that confirm appointments?

So does Practice Mojo confirm the appointment automatically in near real time in OpenDental, like Lighthouse is able to do? Of course I can call and talk to them, but would like my short list of companies to spend time analyzing be only those that auto-confirm in Open Dental. Perhaps Lighthouse is t...

Re: Alternatives to Lighthouse that confirm appointments?

I am using the Reviews feature, although it "broke" (stopped posting to Facebook) when Yodel took over and I never received any notification that it would need to be set up again. I haven't taken the time to set it up either. In my case, I'm willing to lose whatever review exposure I have from the p...

Alternatives to Lighthouse that confirm appointments?

Hello, I am using Lighthouse 360 and for the most part I'm happy with it. However, the "new and improved" portal no longer allows self-service custom message list management, and you can no longer send postcards or letters from it. The huge increase in per-postcard and per-letter pricing that happen...

Re: How to setup automated reports by email

Great write-up - thanks! What I did was automate the generation of the timecard summary report; this was pretty easy since the timecard "Manage" button generates the base query, which I modified per your instructions. Instead of using sendmail I save it into a local folder; I will be changing that s...
